What you feel pressured to do is something you don’t want to do.

Whenever we feel “pressured” to do something, it signals something we don’t wan to do or be. That sounds pretty obvious but still, we feel compelled to do so, against our better judgment. Whenever we experience the same action from others, but it’s about something we WANT TO DO, we feel encouraged, supported, liberated, even accepted. The same actions, the same words, the same reasoning; the only difference is that its something you don’t want to do or something you do want to do.

It’s a good thing to pay attention to what feels like pressure and what feels like support and encouragement. For instance, just to make a point, I am a bit of a perfectionist. Most of the time, I feel pressured not to try so hard. To give up. To… be more normal. I don’t want to be normal or mediocre, is the thing. I don’t want to wear size 14 if I can fit into size 10 or 12. I don’t want to date ordinary men if I can find myself a handsome genius. I don’t want to NOT work on the projects that inspire me, even if there was much easier and bigger money to be made working a 9-to-5 job.

Whenever people encourage me even to try harder and be better, I feel supported, not pressured. Having said that, when someone is trying to push me into doing something that is TOO SOON on my timeline when the divine timing is off, I feel pressured instead of uplifted and encouraged, simply because the timing is not right; even if ultimately, I’d want to do it.

The moral of this is; stop pushing yourself to do things you feel pressured into doing. Even if they’d call you bad names like “a millennial!” 😉 Just say no, and that you’ve got to find your own feet and follow your own process… And try to be as little a problem to others as you can while finding your feet.
