Second Life is a virtual world created by Linden Labs Inc. It is now 21-years of age, a veteran in its field, but still a relatively unknown platform that is starting to reach a good maturity in terms of public interest and usability. Still… Iiit has its caveats and it requires somewhat of mastery of it, and with that level of difficulty, it appeals to intelligent and patient people, in addition to highly creative and imaginative people due to its own nature: You can create literally anything on the grid as long as your skills are enough. Linden Labs is not going to stand in your way. The entire platform is built on the principles of anarchy and personal freedom, without forgetting social responsibility.

To access the Second Life grid, you will need a viewer, which is to Second Life what a browser is to the Internet. There are several different viewers that you can use, and the most loved viewer is by far the Firestorm Viewer due to its many benefits compared to the standard Second Life Viewer which will be offered to you after creating an account with Second Life. I understand why you’d be nervous about downloading a third-party viewer, but please do Google the name Firestorm Viewer for Second Life if you want to know what it is and to assess its validity.

You can simply use the standard Second Life viewer, but frankly, you’d save yourself a bit of hassle by going directly to the Firestorm Viewer instead.

Create an account on the Second Life webpage. It is free to join and explore Second Life indefinitely, there are no ads, no-nonsense, it’s as free as browsing the Internet. You can buy stuff once you feel like it, and building on Second Life costs money – but that’s down the line, of course.

Look around
