The Law of The Truest Wish; the restaurant analogy

When studying The Law of The Truest Wish, we often find the instruction to want it but not need it, to constantly think about it but not hold on to the result and making yourself feel it in your bones, go for it, refuse to give in and at the same time not care about the results… How in the world can we achieve all of that at the same time?! Needles to say, it’s a careful balance to maintain, but I trust that the following example will make things a whole lot easier to understand:

Let’s imagine you are planning to have dinner tonight… A wild scenario, isn’t it? 😀 Anyway, you’re planning to have a meal tonight, but you are not entirely sure what to have. You have plenty of options, you could cook for yourself, get some take aways or you could have the same ol’ same ol’ you have every night, but you have been sitting on that meal ticket in the fanciest restaurant in town, the promise to eat the best damned meal you’ve ever had cooked by a world renowned chef but you never got around making that phone call. This is the equivalent of the LOTTW promise of “you can have anything once you are ready”. Okay, you have the menu in front of you at home, complete with photographs because this is a brochure type of thing and not too fancy at this state. They just want you to know that everything looks bloody beautiful! You can have anything you want! You decide to go through the menu and order something that you feel comfortable with. You have all the options in the world, but you choose something familiar and safe. That’s what most of us would do. We hold onto that idea and go through a pleasurable evening with  no surprises, or maybe even a slight disappointment because what you ordered was not exactly as you pictured it although it was a good meal, it wasn’t really what you wanted. Even worse, you might decide that since you like your peppered stake made certain way, you’ll have to have it even though it’s not on the menu because it’s simply not good enough for this particular chef who is a bit of a perfectionist and an eccentric, so you spend a long time arguing with him whether or not you should have a peppered stake or try something you’d like more. He’ll give up eventually and give you what you insist upon, but not without a fight. Now. The other option would be this…

Call the restaurant and ask to talk to the chef. He’s a sought after man, but you have a special ticket that you have the right to use. So, you decide to go for it, and ask the chef to cook you the best damned meal you’ve ever had, now that you’ve decided to finally have that meal you’ve been promised. The chef is delighted to be given this opportunity to treat you with his best work, and he asks you a few questions about the kinda stuff you have a hungering for. He probes you for details about what you normally like, what you’d have to the level of your favourite colours on a plate, asks you if there’s anything you’ve always wanted to try but never had the opportunity to, and then he tells you he’s got just the thing for you. You put down your phone and drive to the restaurant a little worried what you might get because you’re not exactly known for being adventurous with your food.

Just as you walk to the restaurant, the staff gets alerted that you’re here, they seat you down at the best table of the house, and wish you welcome. In a short while your starter dish is served. You gasp just at the sight of it, it’s perfectly presented, beautiful and looks delicious! You didn’t have to wait for long, just long enough to get comfortable, get your date (I forgot to mention you brought one) all smiley and happy and here’s the starter. It’s perfect. It’s nothing you could have asked for, but it is divine! It surpasses all of your expectations – in all honesty you probably wouldn’t have ordered a starter at all if you had had your own way! The chef has asked his staff to make sure you loved it and they deliver the news to him with excitement; he loves it!

The next course arrives and it’s even better. You are amazed, nothing you would have thought to order, but it’s brilliant! You wonder what this would cost you if you had had to work for it but here it is, aaaamazing! A few more treats after you’re singing Hallelujah that you didn’t make those orders yourself but trusted the best chef in town to deliver the meal for you, just as you liked it although you’ve never met!

THAT is what it means to let go and trust the Universe to deliver what you wanted although you didn’t need it nor dictate it. You needed nothing more than a good boring nutritious meal, but instead, you got what you wanted; a perfectly balanced nutritious meal that was delicious and decadent to boost. You drank the best wine that complimented the dishes brilliantly and you walked away just the right amount full – not stuffed but just perfectly delightfully satisfied. THAT is what it means to give up control but not the want; you wanted to eat the best meal ever, but you let go of the need to dictate what the best meal is and left it to the professional, who didn’t fail to satisfy! The Universe is that professional, and all you need to do is to give him the instructions what you’d like – in the ball park! The more emotion you put in your description of your favorite things in this world, the best decisions he’s able to make in terms of your future life. It might not be anywhere near what you’d order for yourself, but it’s perfectly what you needed and wanted!

Now… Be careful what you order because you WILL get it. If you call in an order and say “I’d like something spicy” you’ll be sure to get something spicy!! What this means in terms of soulmates and love, all you need to call in is: “Please could you organize so that I can experience the deepest love and passion I have ever felt and that I am capable of?” Don’t ask for specifics, like with whom, ask for the emotion, ask for the experience, but never mind who or how it will be delivered. Tell him what is the best thing you could possibly imagine right now, but allow him to plan a surprise for you that will draw from your dreams and make it spectacular, like a designer that has a wealth of information far beyond your own capacity to envision the final result although you know what you like so far! You will be amazed. If you’re already on the way to the restaurant to eat your peppered stake, you should probably stop the car and change your order now.
