the Savants*; Give rules without passion.
Us the Savants* have a very common trait that we do… wrong. We write rules and codes of conduct with PASSION, with an expectation that people will break them, and therefore, we emphasize them emotionally so that they basically read, “do this, or it means war.” I am the WORST offender myself, and I’ve only recently realized why this doesn’t work, but there’s always the asshole or two who wants to test the rules.
Remember, the Normal Person* want attention, which, to them, equals love. Therefore, they assume that rules written with passion are not very serious; they’re a challenge. “Do this, and you’ll get attention, wink wink!” it sounds like flirtation to a dog-type, who cannot help but try and break every rule they feel is silly. They may also assume that there are “real rules” and “bait rules”, bait rules being ones you break to prove you’re the rule-writer’s equal, and those rules don’t apply to the rule-writer’s equals.
We feel that it simply gives us permission to take action, as stated in the rules that were clearly written.
Now. You don’t have to change your rules, per se, but you must present them with less passion. “You can come in, of course, but you’ll have to agree to the rules.” The rules, even if you never SPEAK them, but only write them, do not put the PASSION energy into the rules. They should read as mundane as possible – unfortunately, such things as sex club rules (I’m thinking Second Life, but real life applies) must sound passionate; sexy. Still, try to be conscious of the difference between sexy rules and “I dare you” rules, and reduce the passion in the dares to the minimum.
