Part 8: Getting your ducks in order

There will be a lot of opportunities to lose heart and decide you don’t know what you’re doing. I, personally, know a couple of millionaires (or close to it) that I could have asked for a funding from, but both of them are such that they would have wanted to “help me” too much so I kept my head low. If you’re in the position where you must decide what you want to do with your business, make sure you do not get anyone involved in the wrong position. There was a point when I realized that OK, now I know how I can present this idea to one of my wealthy friends, and if he’d take the offer, it would be awesome, but if not, I’d find another route out. He did not. There is such a thing, too, called “the ship” and the ship sails, even the ship of povos, don’t be afraid to listen to your gut and know when it is time to see if you can  make an alliance and see when you should not, and when the ship sails for you.

Learn to sense when it is that you are too scared to trust your gut (everything looks too good but it feeeels good!) and when it is that you talk yourself into a bad deal because you feel you’re being too judgmental or possessive about your ideas. Be careful about who you make your bed with, and don’t let your inexperience fool you into thinking you don’t know what you are doing. Think back to your life of all the things you did according to someone else’s recommendation, that you later grew to regret. Then, think back to the moments when you wish you had taken advice when you didn’t. Which is more difficult to live with?

Every time you feel lost, get back to the feeling of trying to scale a mountain or climb a wall in the dark. Instinct is the only thing you can rely on, so go with it. (Will this opportunity repeat? If it doesn’t, do you mind?)

Be prepared to be prepared. Line your ducks.
