You don’t get to lower someone else’s bar, just so you could crawl over it.

You’re now in the process of trying to make someone else settle for less than they want because you want to be what they want. If you want that person to want you, you’d better be prepared to become what they want – but not just to please them, but because you’d want to be that person any way. Even if they STILL rejected you, you need to want to be that person for someone else.

Growing as a person requires taking traits, you admire in others and teaching yourself to be and follow those traits. You’ll put your own slant to them, and your collection of admirable traits will be unique, but you’ll have to try and be better, so you don’t constantly run into the situation where you insist others have to be WORSE so you can compete.
