The hidden sexism in compliments to men

There are certain things that are a reoccurring phenomenon in this world. It happens every day, it is, actually, a constant state of being, the love of a parent of their own child. It is a very common thing to see.

And yet, we consider a mother who loves her children to be the norm. That is normal. Every mother loves her child. But a dad who loves his children… Now that is so rare that it’s nearly fucked up, right?! Whenever a man is capable of such complex emotions as love or feeling protective (and mind you I am being extremely sarcastic here), women folk go all OH WOW! Never have I ever witnessed a man capable of expressing love to a child or an animal or who knew, his wife! (Except, of course, the amazing and unusually awesome men that they know… All of them, but any stranger… How in Hell did he manage to feel an emotion besides brutal aggression and selfish one-eyed lust for booty?! A miracle, that’s what it is, a genuine, straight up miracle!)

And they act as if this man was just a well-trained wild beast in a fucking circus. They turn to his  mother to congratulate her for a job well done, because clearly, such a thing as a positive male trait couldn’t have possibly originated from anywhere else but his mother.

Just to make sure you all understand what I mean by this. Men are amazing, selfless, self-sacrificing, beautiful, super smart, deeply feeling, easily hurt, amazing creatures, and the fact that people are amazed by their capacity of love is as sexist as being amazed that a woman has learned to read.

If one of you dares to compliment a man for not being a monster again, I fucking swear..!
