What you thought about genii that isn’t true

1. They’re rare.
(They’re not.)
2. They’re really good at math, spelling, memorizing things, and the like.
(Not necessarily. It is even likely that knowing maths is a sign of a relatively low IQ of a person who likes things to remain the same constantly, and thus, takes comfort in learning something that will not change. Change requires adaptation, quick change requires quick thinking, quick thinking requires a high IQ. An intelligent person may even resist being TAUGHT as it is dangerous. If you accept any lesson without resistance, you can be brainwashed. High IQ people are rarely easy to teach.)
3. They did really well at school.
(Not at all the case. Several reasons.)
4. They never have any problems.
(Not true. They solve problems easier and faster than others but have them, they get stuck on a bigger problem than others.)
5. They are really bad at relationships.
(Not really. They simply conduct their relationships differently to others.)
6. They have a fantastic job.
(More likely they’re unemployed, very likely not well adjusted to society at all.)
7. They know they are a genius and they are smug about it.
(They might have never even thought they’re particularly smart, let alone a genius.)
8. Their parents must be proud.
(Laughing out loud.)
9. They are really boring.
(Nope. More likely very playful, childish, even, and obscure, artistic, creative, or ‘weird’.)
10. They are sexually awkward and stuck up.
(A type of intelligence is a sexual intelligence, and the ways a genius mind wanders…)
11. They are not very spiritual and are an atheist.
(Quite the opposite. High intelligence requires a good amount of acceptance of possibilities. However, the members of the Mensa might fit this stereotype better than those who do not care to join the organization due to not wanting to argue about spiritual matters with a bunch of atheists.)
12. They must be self-confident at work and insecure socially.
(The opposite is probably more true, depending on the type of intelligence, however.)
13. They learn things quickly.
(This is most true so far, but they don’t memorize things, they apply things into practice so fast that most teachers don’t think they’ve been listening at all. They learn fast but are slow at being taught. Difference)
14. They are non-emotional, like Sheldon.
(Let’s not confuse the autism spectrum with the IQ score. Not all high geniuses are autistic, nor are all people with autism highly intelligent. The autistic genius is less likely to be afraid of offending others by their remarks, while the normal genius would be painfully aware of how their remarks affect others and tend to keep their thoughts to themselves particularly after puberty.)
15. They always appear smart and you can tell they’re smart.
(No. Most likely they talk about abstract, creative stuff that makes little or no sense to anyone and can have a really obscure sense of humor making them simply seem odd, rather than smart.)
16. You need a person to take an IQ test to tell whether they’re smart or not.
(Well no. It takes one to know one.)
17. They’re the teacher’s pet.
(The boys are most likely the teacher’s nightmare, the one who is constantly challenging the teacher’s logic and their way of thinking along with the accuracy of their arguments and information. Girls are a bit different.)
18. The highly intelligent people find it hard to make friends
(Not true. They simply find it hard to find company that can relate to them emotionally and intellectually. They make friends easily among people of equal intelligence – or, curiously with people of an exceptionally low IQ; both ends of the spectrum are unconcerned about societal expectations and find each other entertaining, playful, and open-minded.)
19. They find it easy to answer test questions
(True, but they also sometimes assume the question is a trick question when it’s too obvious otherwise, so they start looking for an answer farther than what the exam requires them to, making them ramble and not even mention the obvious point in their answer, because it is… WEll, obvious and thus, not needing a special mention. Like not mentioning that when it’s hot outside the source of the heat is the Sun.)
20. They have an amazing memory.
(More likely they have a very selective memory, that stores information that is important to them personally, while disregarding everything they don’t feel important enough to store… Amazing in it’s own way I guess. 😉 )
21. All geniuses are genius the same way, (and they are equally good at everything) and they all define genius the same way.
(Obviously not.)
