The Power of Pestering People for Sex, Love, or Friendship Until They Give In

Ever met someone who pesters people for love and sex or friendship? The kind of people who will say anything it takes to land a good deal on any of those fronts?

And again, don’t get alarmed. I, too, love the kind of humorous begging, the kind that accepts no for an answer, if not expects it, but I am talking about the kind of prolonged, guilt-trip driven, needy, clingy, coercive pestering. The one that gives you the vibe that if you don’t give in, you’re a bad person.

Some people get married this way. Groan for long enough, and her boyfriend will eventually agree to marry her with a similar level of enthusiasm as he shows for taking out the trash if she nags him long enough.

Guilt and shame is a powerful motivator

When someone keeps giving you reasons to marry them, along the lines you’ll never find another person who’d love you like I do, you won’t get the person you want anyway, there’s nobody who will fulfill ALL your needs, to name a few popular ones, they may not really expect you to actually listen to them. Or they may. Whatever it is, it is and should be a long shot. It shouldn’t be as effective than what it is, but it is VERY effective.

If you are reading this, promise yourself to not even listen to such talk. Just laugh it off and move onto your next prospective ex-boyfriend or girlfriend. :p Make a deal with yourself: Anyone brings up a marriage or a relationship or a friendship in that tone, cut the relationship right there. “Oh, one of those people? Good luck on the hunt, I’m out.”

Then, block them and never speak to them again.

OK, apply at your best convenience, but if you’re sure they’re not joking, it’s the best thing you’ll do for yourself is to over-fucking-react just to protect yourself from potentially doing something really stupid.
