Previous life rich folk tend not to get rich easily in this world
The elite of the previous centuries, people born to money, tend to have a bit of a tough stitch in modern-day world. The reason for this is that a person who is USED TO having a lot of money, and who work from a certain perspective of privilege doesn’t feel RIGHT to ask for monetary compensation for what they do. Also, regular people don’t really sense their need for money, but rather, they feel they’re asking for money for their services for NO REASON, perhaps just to fit in.
The best way for a previous life nobleman to make money in the modern world is to act
The most natural way for a former life privileged people to make money is in some kind of acting, musician’s job, something that is effectively beneath them as ladies and gentlemen. A job that everyone agrees with requires monetary compensation in exchange of their public humiliation of being “an entertainer”, aka, a clown. If you think it’s weird to say a nobleman would feel ashamed of being an actor, given that actors and actresses are modern-day royals, you only need to check Moliere’s background. He was born by the name Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, a French aristocrat who liked writing plays. He changed his name to save his family from the shame of having a son who dabbles in the performing arts (the shame of it!) with the great unwashed! Maybe Don Juan was a bit too much for them. :p
Anyway, actors and musicians were easily likened to lowly folk like bards and street actors, and carnivals, and thus the OLD mind that is still within all of us, would consider all of that to be far beneath a well-respected nobleman, even a talented one… But who wouldn’t want to see a duke or a lord act in a play to amuse the common folk? Therefore, a position like that would have to come with a monetary reward…
If, however, a nobleman would pursue a line of work that aligns with their morals, monetary payment would be an insult, especially as noble people tend to have their soulmates around, which means rich women would never pay other rich women for anything – obviously – and rich gentlemen would do their monetary dealings with a strict decorum that no longer exists… And many noblemen never even thought about money – and let their father or the more practical brother worry about things of the sort… Many, despite their obvious intelligence and schooling spanning lifetimes, can show little to no aptitude for either mathematics or business due to their noble background.
The business network is also not there
What is also true for noble people in general and a lot of women, they don’t have a business network in their soulmates yet, unlike people who have dealt in commerce for centuries or millennia prior. The practices are missing, the natural line of work is missing, and… friends are yet to be made or made into fellow businessmen and women.
So the privileged become the underprivileged, with the added bonus of white men being treated as the automatically privileged and entitled to no help from anybody.
“Unpractical” can be an understatement
Being used to servants and employees of all kinds, the noble folk are often quite unpractical and unfit for a good day’s work. Their mind is often wandering in romance, fun, games, and entertainment, rather than anything practical, thus making the lot very unfit for business. Their idea of the value of money is also highly underdeveloped, and they are difficult to incentivize with money; they don’t understand why they should work for small gains, when… Well, they’re used to having millions.
And yes… I’m one of them… In a way.
