Why some people won’t understand you no matter what you say.
When a person has a persistent self-image or image of other people, and an idea of their position in this world, they may reject everything that contradicts this idea as “nonsensical” no matter what you say to them.
For instance, some people believe that whatever they want is denied from them but not other people, and others are always out to take EVERYTHING away from them. They feel they have to fight to hang onto everything they have, or others will take it from them and make it illegal for them to have/own it. Then, it is very difficult to explain to them that you can have everything you want, but not something that already belongs to another person. Their idea of ownership is kind of like “I have my hands on it, it’s mine.”
So, whenever you’re trying to make things fair and good for everyone, these people hear nothing but a ploy to coax them to give up what they have so they can be traded with something of less value. No matter what you say, they hear you like a snake oil salesman, whatever you say is going to sound like a lie to them.
Sometimes you just have to take the same attitude: I take what I want, even if what you are taking already lawfully belongs to you.
