You don’t have to know everything about technology. A lot of it is there for fun.

When you age, you might be worried about all this technology taking over and feeling like you don’t know what you should know and all that. I personally have one annoyance about technology – it’s getting easier and easier and cheaper to use so that every idiot can now find their way to the Internet to pester smart people who used to be able to enjoy this virtual space alone without them. The Internet used to be a beautiful place of creativity and fun and connecting with people all over the world, and then, the concept of “inviting all of your friends” ruined it all.

Anyway, the way designers think is trying to lower the level of difficulty in accessing their services – it’s good for the wallet. If it’s too easy, it’s open for exploitation both ways, however, so there has to be a level of difficulty in accessing certain services, of course. That difficulty should never be unsurmountable, however.

The only reason why technology is used most of the time is that it is EASIER for everyone involved. There are user groups who struggle here and there, but originally, who thought your grandma would ever NEED TO access the Internet? Who cared if you needed a magnifying glass to see the text? Your gramma didn’t need to see it! Gosh, it was about your sex life anyway! Now, they make buttons the size of the screen so that grandma won’t miss it. Uh.

It’ll get easier and easier as time goes on. Artificial intelligence, which is obviously much scare-mongered about, will still make things easier. Soon, your device will be the size of your ring or something, and you can speak to it if you want. It could be done already, but most people prefer typing, to be honest. Speak interfaces have privacy issues. Therefore, we may have to wait until our devices listen to our thoughts – being telepathic, I believe it to be entirely possible. Obviously, there are some other issues with reading minds… But you know. There are benefits to having no secrets at all… From something and someone. Maybe you’d be less afraid of each other if you knew exactly how harmless most people are.

To be honest, I’m so unconcerned about technology that I just can’t be fucked writing this post.

You’ll be fine.

That said. If you need to learn something about something, google it. If you run into an error, google the exact error message. Everything you need to learn about technology is free to access on the internet, somewhere; you just have to find it. You do not need community classes to learn it, juuuust google it. There’s always someone just one step ahead of you, teaching you stuff just one step ahead.
