When the Survivalist*asks in a whiney voice why are you doing this or that, it’s not criticism…

the Survivalist* are insanely curious. They want to know why is everyone doing what they’re doing, and they want to know if they should do it, too. Unfortunately, among our many many misunderstandings is the tone of voice they use to make their inquiries; that whiney tone that, to a Idealists* sounds like: “You’re so stupid, why would you waste your time doing that?!” In reality, the whiny tone comes from their annoyance you’re not telling them your secrets; you’re keeping a world-saving method to yourself… You’re doing something smart and you’re not sharing your ideas with your (best) friends… Or it is to signal “extreme curiosity”; interest toward your hobbies, and your intelligence, not criticism of it.

The truth is, us the Idealists* don’t necessarily think what we are doing is for everybody, so we don’t often bother explaining it. We also experiment a lot, we play a lot, and we do “useless” and “pointless” things for sheer enjoyment of it a lot, but it’s sometimes difficult to explain why we enjoy something.

the Survivalist* could try whispering their question if they mean it as simple curiosity – it’s harder to stop a humorous smile to appear that way, too, which will signal to a Idealists* that you are actually just curious, not thinking “oh you are a disgusting time-wasting moron…”

Mind you, the Idealists* are a bit of high-performance and evolution-obsessed creatures, which means THEY think everything they do should have a purpose and a drive. That’s why they easily interpret whiny tones as criticism of their time-spending choices, and they think what you mean is “you should be working harder, not waste your time playing games.” the Survivalist* MAY BE criticizing the Idealists* for something tho: Not spending enough time with them or their family, but not for not working hard enough.
