Breaking up with the Young Soul*: “I am unhappy. :((“
A Young Soul* doesn’t expect to be happy in life. They expect to be safe and sound, but they are not counting on being happy, and they can live with not being happy. An Old Soul*, on the other hand, wants happiness, and they will spend a lifetime longing for happiness, or in the pursuit of achieving it. Whenever someone steps in their way in a way that stops them from pursuing their happiness, they get depressed. This, to them, is a clear sign that, for instance, their relationship isn’t working, and that it needs to end, but to the Young Soul*, one partner being sad and depressed means that the family needs to step in and everyone needs to collect around the depressed person, as he or she needs support now more than anything else. For the Young Soul*, this is true, for a Old Souls*, depression is one’s body’s signal to turn their lives around.
I am unhappy is not the same as I am not happy
If you are a Old Souls* and need to break up with the Young Soul*, you will need to use this phrase:
“I am unhappy” in order to open the conversation about a breakup. If at any stage, the Young Soul* seems to be losing the plot about the importance, the Old Souls* needs to remind them that they are UNHAPPY. They shouldn’t use the phrase “I am not happy” because that phrase will be met with nothing but “well, nobody here is happy,” and disregarded as an obvious statement. “I am unhappy,” however, even to the Young Soul* means that something isn’t working and one needs to make a change in their life. “I am depressed” also doesn’t work, because it means you have an illness and now you need family’s support.”
The Young Soul* always want everyone to be happy – and want to make them so.
If the Young Soul* gets so much as a wiff that someone is unhappy, they will do everything in their power to make the other person happy. The danger is that they will not understand the other person’s needs, and trivialize their problems by, for instance, if the Old Souls* wants to be a recording artist, and had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do a record in the top recording studio in LA with the people he’s admired his whole life but this would require him to move to LA, the Young Soul* might decide that the appropriate course of action is to tell him that “Oh well we can’t move but look I bought you a recording software and a microphone for your laptop.” This, to a Old Souls* is like a slap in the face and an insult, ridicule of his dreams and wishes, but the Young Soul* might be completely happy with themselves that they had the foresight to solve this problem with just a small investment and everything can go back to normal again. They have a tendency of trying to find something similar and to think that “that is just as good as…” when to a Old Souls* the difference is so massive they might not even think it was intended as a serious alternative. They might, using the previous example, think that the recording software and the mic were a lovely gesture to keep them motivated WHILE planning moving to LA, not a replacement to the original plan.
