Fear makes people do the worst things in this world
When I was a kid, I was an avid reader of Donald Duck -comics. In one of them, and I couldn’t say what strip it was, Uncle Scrootch says to Donald’s nephews, that there is nothing to fear in this world but fear itself. It stuck with me, and I’m pretty convinced he was right. Fear makes us do awful things in this world, from witch hunts to wars, mutilations of other people, thinking mainly lobotomies at the moment, to wiping out entire species of other animals and races of people… the fear of what will these people do if they are left alive. Fear should never inspire us to do anything but self-defense and keeping our eyes open for dangers we’ve learned to avoid. An attack should never be motivated by fear.
One should always feel justified in raising to their own two feet and living their life the way they feel right. Beyond that, no. Whenever you have to step onto another person’s toes, your rights end… Perhaps intimate relationships excluded, with complicated rules of engagement that I discuss at length in this blog anyway.
the Normal Person* and the Savants* must learn to live side by side, not on top of each other. It’s a fool’s errand trying to mix too many different types of people beyond the point of comfort. We must know each other enough to live peacefully as neighbors, but beyond that, there should be no need but an egotistical need to prove a philosophical theory of friendship and love beyond boundaries to be real. It isn’t. You don’t want to be me, and I don’t want to be you.
Then again, if two or more people mix peacefully beyond some boundary, let them. As long as everybody is happy. The militant need to be friends with everybody must end. The militant need to control everybody and make everybody the same as the Normal Person* want must end. The Savants* need to allow everybody to be free to be themselves must be enforced in Tyrannical means: Shaming, coercing, and bullying the Normal Person* to live peacefully alongside people who are not like them. We must give them the reassurance that they can safely do so, and that we, the Savants* know what we are doing. We must take charge because the Normal Person* are too afraid of people who are not like them to be trusted with power.
The trouble here is that the Savants* are too afraid of making a mistake and ruining something to take power away from the Normal Person* who do nothing but harm… Like elephants in a china shop. They MUST BE TAUGHT the fitness of nuance, to abide by the gray shades, near-invisible lines, and a myriad of different situations – all things they hate because they want things black and white and easy to follow. Until they know how to do this, we must guide them by the hand like parents guide a child.
