Fear of saying the wrong thing; You need an editor -problem.

As we are moving more and more toward a society where everybody is a celebrity, more and more people will be relying on an editor to filter their expressions in the media. I am not at all convinced that this is a good thing. People have died for freedom of speech and self-expression, and now we’re hiring people to edit that freedom. Sure, yes, I understand saying things will bring reactions of all kinds to you, and that’s not always nice, but you know… Adults and all. You know when THEY are acting like children, and when you are.

Who wants to be famous or even notorious if someone else is actually doing the talking for you? Sure, maybe a once-over from someone else will ensure you come across the way you intend to, but you must be the last editor before hitting send, surely? But then again, if we cannot allow anybody the luxury of saying things ineloquently at times, don’t we hold ourselves to an impossible standard, too? That whole, let he who is without sin cast the first stone -idea?

Fire your editors, yes? Be free. Be authentic. Be you. Say the darndest thing, will ya?

Autotune and other gimmicks.

I just watched a video with Celine Dion spontaneously bursting into a song to demonstrate her singing changes during her stiff person syndrome. Tell you what? If that’s the way she sings when she’s sick, it’s an insult they’re using autotune on her songs. To be fair, Britney Spears, too. Both of them are incredible singers, but you wouldn’t know of it with all that polishing going on – especially of Britney.

The natural voice of a human being, perfectly in key… There’s no reason to start correcting it artificially. Sure, you can still sound impressive, but when the autotune is gone, THAT’s when you feel the shivers – the good feels.

Makeup and alterations.

I understand vanity, don’t get me wrong, I really do. But you know true beauty is a health thing, right? It’s hard work, not an accident. It’s not as much a privilege as it is a reward and also, respect for another person.

I don’t want to judge anyone for using enhancements, but I don’t want you to think that they’re required. That you are not good enough without it all. Fashion and style and all that can be a lot of fun to just observe even, it’s a joy to watch someone in their very best, but I don’t want it to be something that anybody feels forced into.

I mean… Dolly Parton goes to bed with her makeup on, waits until her husband is asleep, gets up, takes it all off and gets up again before he awakes to “put her face on.” I think it’s super cute. She laughs like a bird telling the story – it’s a way to love her husband a little extra, not something she HAS TO DO.

For fun and joy only, yes? Not because you have to. Fun and joy.

I like perfecting things… And then there is stuff I throw in like… factory seconds.

There are things that I get into the miniate over. Then, there are things I like best as “thought trash.” Random thoughts, small ideas, there you go, go to town.

Whatever you do, do it with your authentic attention span. As easily or as painstakingly as you like.

Now. Can you tell I don’t edit my posts – at least not the day I publish them? I bet you can – but do you mind?
