How to deal with the “split personality” of the celebrity me and the normal me?

Let me ask you this: Which one is the real you?

There are two ways to be a celebrity; to “fake it” or to finally have the freedom to be everything that you are in public. It is more than likely that one of these roles seem fake to you, something you do to please others. People mostly associate the celebrity personality to be the fake one, but in truth, it can be the real one – the personality with enough room to breathe, when the “normal you” feels boxed in and forced to act “mundane” when truly you feel like spreading your fancy feathers for the world to see.

Do you feel stretched to be a celebrity or do you feel boxed in as a “normal” person?

My real personality is the “normal person” me.

Now… Personally, I’d prefer if you were brave enough to be yourself in both worlds, no matter what it is. However, I understand that if you are “faking it”  as a celebrity, there’s a lot of money involved. However… Let me put this to you… Could you find a way to keep harvesting the rewards of fame on social media for example, while winding down and being yourself as you do it? Could you sing your heart out without being covered in sequences?

Now that you are famous, you have a certain power. Your fans are going to follow you, not your publisher or your agent. Maybe you’ll lose a few if you’re you, but honestly… You may tap into something far more richer than that, that is much more valuable than all the money you’re now making.

Give it a thought. Not every celebrity is faking it out there, you shouldn’t either.

My real personality is the “celebrity” me.

If you are one of these guys, then you probably want to cut some ties to your past without really feeling the right to do so. Let me suggest this… Normal people hate your passion for your craft. Act a bit entitled among them, and perhaps bring a high-status fan or two with you when you hang out with friends and family you want to drop. Let this fan-friend keep you talking in front of your friends and family, and do this so often that finally, your friends and family will ask you NOT TO bring your friends with you. Then, you act offended and tell them if your friends aren’t welcome, then you can’t come.

Whenever you can, surround yourself with people who love to hear you talk. Act entitled to keep your entourage with you. That should turn the regular folk off you in no time. You realize that people who can’t stand to hear you talk are not real friends of yours.
