“I don’t believe” is an enormously powerful statement.
“You just have to believe it” is a powerful thing, yes, but if you struggle to believe something, it’s very very difficult to convince yourself that you do. It is a lot easier to state that you don’t believe something… than it is to state that you do.
Think of this: “I believe I am safe.” Vs. “I don’t believe I’m under constant threat.” Or “I believe I can make money.” vs. “I don’t believe making money is all that hard.”
“I don’t believe my country is under constant threat.” “I don’t believe I am under an attack.” “I don’t believe everyone is out to get me.” “I don’t believe I’m very prone to sickness.” “I don’t believe my life is that difficult.” “I don’t believe that people dislike me.” “I don’t believe learning that will be that difficult.” “I don’t believe I will have to work too hard to get there.”
Keep going.
If you run into a statement that doesn’t ring true to you, you should perhaps look into that: “I don’t believe my car will break down on the way there…” and your mind goes, “It has a very good chance of breaking down, tho.” Then you should probably get your car checked, right? But if you use the “I don’t believe” statement, at least you can eliminate useless, baseless fears from your life.
