So. Elon Musk makes real fancy cars. A girl can be impressed by two things: The fact he’s MAKING fancy cars or that him making fancy cars makes him money. If her first question is: “How much money do you pocket per car?” rather than “How does one decide to start making cars… Of any kind, let alone these?!” You know there’s a problem. The difference is money vs. your experience being a person.

However, suppose you are a man who buys stuff. In that case, showing off your Tesla and your jacuzzi in your penthouse apartment is possibly being met with a mild “Yeah, it’s cool” from a girl who wants to know YOU and how you made your money—the experience of being YOU. You can show her every last cufflink you own, and she won’t show much interest. She’s not visualizing herself enjoying your luxuries while you work even harder; she’s wondering if you’d bore her to death on a trip to Venice… And if you don’t stop talking about your stuff soon, she’ll probably figure that yeah, she could just as well be stuck on an endless ad break on YouTube, and she’ll find herself some empty-pocketed poet instead.

So. How do you impress a girl who isn’t impressed by your money or your possessions? You impress her by telling her what it’s like to be you. What was it like to be you before? How did you become you… And definitely, how does it feel to be you… With her. (Gold diggers hate a man who talks about himself… Talking about yourself will keep you safe from gold diggers, too. Just… Invite her to tell you what it’s like to be her – you want to know, yes?)
