Is “to be zen” to not have emotions?
No. Reaching Zen means that you’ll allow your feelings to flow through you freely without judgment while paying attention to them. You don’t try to block them, alter them, screw them; you allow them to be what they are and decode them as they flow through you. Zen means you don’t lose this ability even in a busy environment; your attention stays on your feelings and observation at all times, no matter what happens around you.
Whenever you have an emotional blockage, it’s like a paper jam in a printer. It needs to be sorted out, and things need to get moving again. No Zen master suffers from blocked emotions or has cowardly turned their emotions off completely. They simply read their emotions calmly and accurately and act accordingly.
