It doesn’t really matter if you tell the truth or not – people are going to interpret you whichever way they like.
I’ve been a chronic truth-teller my whole life… But I also have to find a nice way to tell the truth. The problem with telling the truth is that you always weigh two options: “Is this true or not?” and that signals that you ARE considering your words. You give an air of trying to impress. People will interpret that based on their own way of thinking: You considered your words; therefore, they must be the truth or the lie, depending on how THEY would do it. If they’re not afraid you’re lying to them, they may feel you’re trying hard to impress them – even when you’re just trying real fucking hard not to insult them.
You could just blurt out whatever pops into your mind and never mind whether it is the 100% truth or 100% nice. You create an atmosphere around you, and people will choose the atmosphere or… Reject it when they can’t convince themselves that you’re “trying too hard” or “hiding your true self” while convincing themselves that if you relaxed, you’d turn out to be just like them and you’d love them.
With that, you’ll offend some people. Let them be offended. Teaches them to stay the heck away from you, doesn’t it?
