Letting go of the need to be in control of what you can’t control

Proud control freaks, attention, please.

There are things you can control, and there are things you cannot control. Then, there are things you’d be very stupid trying to control. This is the wisdom to know the difference.

You cannot (directly) control

  1. How other people feel (about you). (You can control their behavior and their spoken words, but not what they feel.)
  2. What will happen in your life and in what order. (Everyone will always get to experience THE FEELING they they seek, but that’s all.)
  3. WHEN you get what you want. (The more terms you’ve got for what you want, the longer it takes to arrange.)

Those are the things you’ve got to learn to let be.

The cock pit analogy

Imagine you board a flight to a commercial airline. You’re not a pilot, you have never flown even a small plane. Yet, you don’t trust the pilot, and after take off, you lose control, run to the cock pit and attempt to wrangle the controls of the hands of the pilots because you want to be in control.

Smart?

I hope I don’t have to tell you how that would turn out… Or why there’s a fucken lock in the door in the first place. (No, I haven’t tried that to make sure! 😀 )

That is how most control freaks run their lives. They cannot trust the Universe to know what it’s doing. They cannot trust their friends to know their own feelings, thoughts, and personality. They cannot trust their children to be the pilots of their own lives, or their lovers to know their own mind better than they do.

This is why being a control freak is not something to be proud of.

Now, take control of your own growth and fix this fucking problem of yours. You’re always right anyway and know what’s best so… Do your thing and stop being a twat. Control your pathological need to be in control.
