Liar, liar, pants on fire!

There are times in one’s life when one chooses to lie, no? There are good times to lie, but not many. Effectively, if you only have to deal with the fallout of tre truth in one or two personal relationships, tell the truth. However, if an entire system is stacked against you, lie all you want, as I see it. You may tell the truth to one person, who then has to be the bad guy to report you or to then lie on your behalf if they deem it the right thing to do; it is best to take that burden away from them and lie to them – but lie well. Lie so well, in fact, that they don’t need to feel guilt for letting you get away with an obvious lie.

Generally speaking, I believe the truth is always the best way to go about things, and a white lie is nothing but you aiding another person to hold onto a false sense of reality; I do find it necessary to lie once and a while. I tend to say this: “If you’re going to lie, at least don’t lie to yourself, and preferably never lie to people you truly love, although there is such a thing as bad timing for a truth.”

Telling the truth is, however, YOUR FREEDOM. Often, lies are for the benefit of another person and to imprison yourself with the lie. You’d love to tell your wife or kids that you’re in love with another woman, but for as long as you lie, you’re tied to a dead marriage for the benefit of your family, for example. Their reality stays untainted by unpleasant realities. That’s why lying is so easy: you don’t want to hurt anyone with the truth. Between true friends and lovers, however, your pain is my pain, and shared pain is a pleasure.

What is true, however, is that people who love you whilst you’re lying may not love you if they knew the truth – therefore, the lie doesn’t weigh as much as you now think it does. On the other hand, if they truly love you, their love will adjust to the truth. Just when you start telling a painful truth, tell the whole story.
