Most terrible things are done by people who wanted to do the right thing.

Good intention is not a safe space in terms of a good outcome. Most people, I kid you not, are trying to do the right thing, by God, by another person, or to protect their child, you know? All people, I believe, are inherently good. We strive to do the right thing, but “do unto others as you’d do unto yourself” for one, is a terrible piece of advice. I’m sorry to say. What is right for you is a nightmare to another person. And it is up to you to know the difference.

In terms of the outcome, your good intent means nothing. Your good intent must be accompanied by the awareness that you MAY NOT KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING. You don’t need to FEAR that you’ll make a mistake and do it anyway, as your fear will not protect you, but your awareness and understanding that you may not know what you’re doing should make you want to think things through first and consider the possible negative outcomes that might come out of your well-intended action.

An example? You want to save your friend from a narcissist. You KNOW they’re in a relationship with a narcissist, and you know what the outcome of it is going to be. You’d do anything to save your friend from it. Next, you spring into action and manage to convince the narcissist to go elsewhere. Now, your friend blames you for ruining their relationship, will spend over a decade pining after this person, and will never speak to you again. What’s worse, it may be that the person wasn’t a narcissist after all. Maybe they were a True Emotion Mirror. Those relationships sometimes look eerily similar on the surface.
