There might be a few reasons, but this is a taroty post. In your case, what it is is that your compliment isn’t sized properly. You have to try smaller compliments or bigger compliments. It’s not that they’re picky; it’s more that they’re traumatized. Maybe they’re not used to honest love. Maybe their parents weren’t very supportive, and they never had friends who would show them support or love. (Not truly.) Maybe you’re mincing your words and not being quite honest and they can sense that you, too, are lying to them… (Maybe you’re not saying enough.)

Try resizing your compliments and expressions of love. Usually, the smaller variation works better. It’s easier to believe and absorb with a love-starved mind. Kinda like refeeding syndrome, you know? You have to restart feeding with tiny portions. 😉
