Oneness and individuality; are we all a part of God?

Spiritual teachers have so often come to the conclusion that we are all a part of God, similarly to cells in a human body; each cell representing an individual soul. We are also supposed to have free will, but at the same time everything is supposed to work out perfectly every time, because we are all a part of God. Now this view poses a problem. If we have free will, then what guarantees we will always do right by each other? If God controls us to some extent, then we don’t have a free will, do we? If we are all a part of God, then it means that his will is our will and we don’t, in fact, have a free will and this experiment is rigged. We cannot learn who we are individually if we are all a part of God, and that would make the whole thing pointless.

I have never been able to understand the fascination with the idea that everyone else in our lives are just “script holders” to what we need to learn. That is the most disrespectful idea about a fellow man I could possibly think of. That essentially renders everything that everyone ever says to us or feels for us meaningless, because it’s only us talking to ourselves, ourselves loving ourselves. It is one good reason spiritual people would be in pain; why would we want to experience any of this if all we are doing here is (emotional) masturbation?

I believe that in the start of all of this, each soul was separated permanently from God, with nothing but a command to go be who you want to be. Nothing else but free will and potential to be anything at all. I believe God is to us what the Ocean is for the fish. We all live in him, he is everywhere that isn’t us, but he is a separate entity to us. I believe that he could not influence our free will even if he wanted to by his own decision not to.
