People prioritize their relationships differently.
When you make a friend, it’s good to know their priorities.
In which order do they consider themselves loyal – by default? Friends (which ones, male or female friends?), family members (does the gender of the family member count?), boyfriends/girlfriends, fiances, spouses? Does a friend get behind a spouse, or do they remain a first even after marriage to another?
Suppose you ASSUME your friend considers you their first priority and they are loyal to you first, above all lovers and family. In that case, it may feel like you’ve been “lied to” when your friend assumes you knew they’d prioritize ANY sexual or romantic relationship with even a temporary partner over you at a drop of a hat when they never thought you’d assume any different. Happens all the time. An interesting discussion point with a new person. (And no, they won’t feel bashful about it, nor should they. We all hold our loyalties whichever way we do.)
