Phrase it this way: “I don’t like that image of me being portrayed to the outside world.”
If you have to deal with a narcissist who keeps representing you incorrectly as a favor to you, they may lie about you in public. You may have tried to tell them that you don’t like it, because “that’s not who you are.” To a narcissist, who you are means nothing. It’s nobody’s business who you actually are as a person. Therefore, they are more than happy to lie to save face for you. Therefore, they’ll ignore your objection about “who you are” and keep telling everybody a pretty version of the story the way they see it.
It might help if you rephrased it: “I don’t like to be portrayed in that manner to people” which means you’re not happy with the narrative they’ve created. Then, somehow try and create a better STORYLINE for them to repeat, that more accurately reflects your idea of who you are and what role you wish to play in society.
