Psychics; overcoming the issue of asking for money
In the olden days, people with the power to converse with the spirit world and the gods were regarded as the most important people in the community. If there was one thing that was certain it was that if you were able to help people deal with their mortal life, they would make sure you were well taken care of.
When Christianity came to be, two things happened: people who linked you to God, namely priests, were paid by the wealthy, and the people would go to churches to get their spiritual life sorted. Psychics were deemed witches or pagans, and, therefore, frauds.
Now, the other thing that psychics, seers, gurus, oracles and all people to that description had in common was that they were paid through donations from people who saw them. Often, it was nothing more than a cake your client would bake you to show her appreciation for your work, it would be a bag of seed or whatever the client would have to pay for your troubles. You would expect to be paid, one way or another, and there was one thing that people wouldn’t do, and that is to anger a person with a direct link to the unseen world and knowledge how to command it, that would pretty much guarantee you got paid your dues.
I have a feeling, that somewhere out there the nobility decided that the people most skilled in fortune telling and guiding people through psychic means, should be paid by the wealthy so that their services would be freely available to the masses. Now, the masses learned to treat psychic services as a free service, and when the wealthy vanished out of the picture, the psychics and oracles were left surrounded by people who had learned to treat them as a free service provider. The other side effect of this was that when the most talented of psychics were paid, the less appreciated and novice ones had to still keep asking for their money directly from the customer. This meant, that a psychic who asks for a payment could be directly considered either a beginner or a fraud, therefore, they wouldn’t deserve a proper payment, if they deserved a payment at all. (You had to learn your trade first.)
As using psychic abilities is actually a honed skill, and becoming good at it takes time and energy, psychic skills are nothing different to knowing any other trade in this world. Nobody has been “born gifted” or “born talented” by accident, this is knowledge that has been acquired over lifetimes of working at it, and the people who are now creating incredible 3D animations once started by painting stick figures in a cave. Similarly, learning to become a psychic is a matter of teaching yourself – to become good at it takes lifetimes of dedicated work, and that should not come cheap any more than other skills do.
So… What was left in our subconscious mind and lessons passed on from generation to generation was this: Be suspicious of psychics, they deal with the devil, and if they ask you to pay for the service, they are frauds. And, the worst part is that the psychics themselves have learned the same thinking pattern: if you have to ask for money, you are no good, but because you no longer get donations given to you as a matter of proper behavior, because the public expects your services to be free, the psychic gets nothing from nobody.
Do you still feel like you can’t ask for money?
Now, may I direct your attention to the donation button on the right, dear sir or madam?
