The deliberate misunderstanding
Narcissists** tend to sometimes deliberately misunderstand you to get what they want; to give you what they think you want. You say: “Yes, ultimately, I want to get married,” thinking you’re asking a generic question. A narcissist will misunderstand it: “Eventually, I will marry you.” Later, they will hold you to it: “You said you wanted to marry me.” You wreck your brain… “Did I?!”
You read a book at the library, sitting next to a classmate you barely know. “I want to find a friendship like between Emily and Diana.” You sigh looking up from the book. They think you want it with them. They’ll read the same book and then get angry with you when you don’t play the role of either Emily or Diana because you’re you.
NEVER express even the feeblest of wishes near a narcissist. If they love you enough, they’ll kill the president to get you a cup of coffee and don’t understand why you wouldn’t appreciate that. The trouble is, a servant narcissist is not an easy one to spot.
