the Modern and the Timeless can do the exact same thing for opposite motivations.

The reason why we decide who is modern and who is timeless is because we do and say largely the same thing under completely different motivations and different meanings. It is very difficult to decide who is what by outward behavior. Individually, these behaviors change, too, but we have to learn to cue to the baseline – you can ask the Timeless (they might not tell), but you can’t trust the answer of the Modern, whatever they say. Therefore, you have to learn the signs and hope you’ll learn to pick what anyone is (faster) over time.
