Amber Heard did it to Johnny Depp quite famously. I believe it was done to Charles Manson, and a number of other people in #meToo era: To destroy the old crush, or, as I say, the King before moving onto serving another. If another person rejects the Modern who had a “previous king,” they may believe the requirement is to “kill the former one,” and by killing them, I mean reputation destruction. This is also far more typical for female the Modern to do than male ones, who may try some of it, perhaps by confessing “hating” the ex, or spreading revenge porn on them.

This is a very the Modern typical reaction, to teach themselves to hate the ex so they can move on. Savant* don’t do it quite like that, even though they’ll point out a few flaws in their ex, the reasons for breaking up, but they certainly don’t INVENT reasons to hating them like the Modern will.

The Modern will not consider it a “good kill” unless they have utilized underhanded methods and betrayed the former king in a glorious way. This is one of the reasons the Modern may think you’re still in love with them if you haven’t gloriously and publicly betrayed them yet. Ironically, they try to kill their ex’s lingering feelings, I guess, even when the ex has none left.

The moral of the story is to take an ‘ex’s’ words with a grain of salt when they spread rumors about their ex. It may be completely false.
