TLOTTW:Keeping your survival instincts alive through poverty

I am the master of wanting nothing. I am so perfectly capable of not needing anything, not longing for anything and being happy for the smallest things that my life is full of… Nothing. I am, arguably, one of the most advanced spiritual teachers currently in this world. I am on social welfare because I cannot bring myself to want material good. I do not consider that a positive, or my strength, it’s just a result of eons of self-denial and training myself to not want anything more. No love, no thanks, no money, no power, no credit for my work… I am working on changing all of that, but right now, I can help you to start moving into a new direction, too, if you happen to be in the same position as I am like so many spiritually aligned people are.

If your primary goal in your spiritual evolution has always been selflessness, you will find it difficult to break the pattern. God keeps telling me that what right does he have to ruin millennia’s worth of work on selflessness and thriving towards modesty, abstinence, and asceticism for one lifetime’s folly of suddenly wanting something? Is he going to pour money and power on you that you previously deemed devil’s work, or is he going to protect you from it until he’s sure you mean what you say? Especially if you are doing spiritual work at the same time, even if he would rather lavish you with all the life’s gifts he can think of than keep you in lack and poverty, can he ignore millennia’s worth of prayers to the opposite? And to me, personally, he asks: “Are you really going to undo all the work you’ve done in your past lives because you suddenly feel aroused by a bunch of rock stars you never paid much heed to before compared to your usual men?” (At least he knows I’m no prude. 😉 )

The society’s pressure

We live times that are geared towards consumption and making money in all levels of society. Everyone must have this, that, and the other, and it is required for everyone to make their own living or else, they are not deemed worthy. Are you really about to break the very smart idea of always managing on the very smallest, the very skill that ensures your survival; the fact that you could now leave your house forever, live in the forest with whatever you can fit into your backpack for the riches of this world that make you soft and useless? Just as the world seems to be heading right towards its doom? Are you going to allow yourself to rely on massive moneys when before, you could survive on pennies compared to the normal people?

At the very least, God should keep your survival (creative) instincts alive by keeping you poor for a significant amount of your lifetime, right? So you won’t get soft and useless and dependent – all stuff you hate to be.

(I am so sick of struggling. ;))

How easily do you manage not having anything much? It’s not much of a pain, is it? What if your soul is learning the art of going from extreme poverty to extreme riches in a moment’s time, and then, perhaps, the other way around just for the sake of excitement in another lifetime? (Hopefully in another lifetime.) Perhaps it is for us to learn, that whatever we  need we will have (I just irritated God: “of course it is.”) on such a deep level that we don’t have to fear poverty any more than we need to fear riches. I know what he wants to teach me: Spend carelessly. I don’t think he understands credit cards very well though. “When have you ever lacked something?” He asks. “I can’t even pay my bills.” Then you whip out your credit card and somehow your bills have been paid. He looks at you smugly thinking… “Well you just paid your bills, didn’t you?” “Just exchanged one bill with another.” “Whaat?” I swear God is stuck in 1800’s.

The exchange with people you do not  love

The natural flow of favors and all good things in life happens between people who love each other. They share everything with each other, and there is no question about who owns who and which money is mine and which is yours. Trouble arises when you do commerce with people who you do not love, or give help of any description to people you do not intimately love. That is when we need money, that should, to make some spiritual sense out of what money is, be called “favor points”. I do you a favor, I receive favor points in the approximate value of the favor, and I can claim a favor from another bloke against these points, right? Things get confusing, spiritually speaking, when we start lending our favor points to another person who hasn’t done enough favors for other people in order to get enough points to get what they want out of life, or, have a habit of not asking for their favors to be recorded in the favor log book (your bank account).
