What if your authentic way of being is unnatural?

I preach about finding your authentic way of being, but that does not mean… pre-historic. We are humans, we’ve evolved far into the future as thinking, technologically advanced species with a ton of tools for all purposes imaginable. Our natural way of being is that of innovation of altering our environment and sometimes our bodies.

What I mean by “authenticity” is “the real wish,” the “true want,” what we genuinely want to do and be on an individual level, even if it wasn’t “natural” in terms of “well, stone-age people would have never done that.” We are not stone-age people anymore. We’ve developed likes and dislikes for many things that a pre-historic human wouldn’t like. We would be AUTHENTICALLY disappointed and sad if we had to give up our smartphones, don’t you think? We have an authentic love for smartphones, and denying the wish to use a smartphone is thus inauthentic, fake, and contrived.

So. “Natural” or not, do you authentically like it this way or that way? Plastic or glass? If you start looking for authenticity in the form of “completely natural,” you’ll wind up living naked in a cave, and that’s not what I mean by “authenticity.” It is also not a group decision what is authentic for you – it’s your decision… Even if the authentic decision, for you, is a group decision, but a friend of yours can’t even tolerate the idea of you making his or her decisions for them – you gotta let them decide what’s authentic for them, and realize that if your authenticity is a group decision, and theirs isn’t, then they’re not your authentic friend and a life partner.
