What’s the difference between a literal obsession and being in love?
The difference between a literal obsession with another person and being in love with someone is basically how THEY feel about you. Someone who is obsessed will not CARE how their subject feels about their love, but keeps on pursuing them despite being rejected over and over.
Being in love with someone is different – while you “obsess” over that person, you do wonder how they (would) feel about you, if your love is (would be) enough for them, and whether or not they (would) like you back. You also give them a respectful distance if this is a ‘love from a far’ situation, and you don’t assume that your love will be enough for them, “if they only knew you love them so.”
Obsession: You don’t either care how the object of your feelings feel about you, or you fully believe your love will absolutely gobsmack them into loving you back.
Being in love: You are concerned, curious, or simply wonder how they feel about you, or would feel about you if they knew you (better).
Otherwise, the difference is minimal.
