When they’re laying you a guilt trip
Whose agenda are they driving? Who is going to benefit from your submission? Who is being selfish in this equation? Who has to give up something vital to their rightful happiness over whose potentially selfish benefit? You cannot be selfish if another person is asking you to sacrifice your happiness for theirs.
Remind yourself of the definition of selfishness: It is taking more than your fair share and causing an expense on another person. Are you being selfish or are they asking you for a sacrifice – for them – and is that in your mutual benefit or theirs? By whose standard?
You are not being selfish by only wanting what is rightfully yours.
