Why are the Normal Person* so uncomfortable with difference.

the Normal Person* thinkers are, to begin with, fashion illiterate. They don’t understand the message that fashion conveys, the nuances between subcultures, or anything that goes into anything but what they consider to be “normal.” Therefore, they cannot tell why a person looks different from them; they just know they do.

Secondly, they are hierarchical thinkers. When someone looks different from them, they want to know who is on top and who is on the bottom. When the egalitarian the Savants* tries to establish equality, they often wind up telling the Normal Person* that you are BETTER than others; when they try to say, “You are equal to others, worth as much as others,” but the Normal Person* Thinking brain cannot absorb such message. It’s either better or worse, never equal.

In that setting, the Normal Person* cannot tell whether they are the better or the worse in this equation, so they try to argue about it. They figure that if they are inferior, the superior will force them back in their place. An egalitarian peace -loving the Savants* tries to appease them and calm them down by submitting. Submitting to a Savants* doesn’t mean inferiority, per se. It means “I’m not the enemy.” It means “I’ll back off momentarily, so you understand I am not a threat to you or your freedom to be you,” but the Normal Person* takes this as a sign of submission and therefore their own superiority.

When the Savants* then fails to act like an inferior in their future interactions, the Normal Person* is confused again. “Didn’t they just submit before?” “Why are they acting equal/superior again all of a sudden?” That makes them uncertain and uncomfortable around people who seem different to them.
